DLR GfR mbH offers reliable and secure services in the aerospace sector. On behalf of the European Commission, we operate and monitor the Galileo satellite constellation at the Galileo Control Center (GCC) in Oberpfaffenhofen.

YOUR MISSION:
As part of our L1 Team you will contribute to ensuring smooth operations of the Galileo Ground Segment. In the Galileo Control Centre you will work with specific IT systems, you will analyze incidents and find solutions for hardware and software – starting from customized servers and switches to firewall architecture solutions.

- In the ground segment of the Galileo System you will be responsible for the maintenance and administration of the Linux- and Windows IT platforms as well as specific IT systems used for the 24/7 Galileo mission.
- In case of incidents related to hardware and software you conduct a root cause analysis, solve problems directly or transfer complex issues to the Level 2 or Level 3 Team. After an intensive training period you will regularly perform on-call work.
- You will be responsible for the restoration and verification of new / replaced components, as well as for the administration of user and root accounts on the elements.
- Your role also comprises the validation and execution of maintenance procedures for the relevant hardware and software.
- You perform system and interface tests and work on the optimization of maintenance procedures for the Galileo Systems, based on the existing documentation.
- You will document your work in a ticket system and participate in coordination meetings where you will represent the company's interests towards customers.
This position can be filled on a full-time or part-time basis.
YOUR QUALIFICATION:
- You successfully completed your Bachelor’s degree in computer science, telecommunications, engineering or comparable. Alternatively you bring in a complete apprenticeship as IT specialist for system integration, alongside with relevant professional experience.
- You have a good understanding of Linux and Windows (Server knowledge is a plus). Using the Linux command line is part of your daily work.
- You are proficient in working with networks, databases and IT infrastructures. Having this experience, you can easily understand technical dependencies and systematically analyze incidents.
- You have an accurate work style, team spirit, stress tolerance and a sense of responsibility. Additionally, you bring in the availability to perform on-call work and to occasionally travel to other Galileo sites.
- Experience in working with system and network administration, server infrastructure, virtualization, ITIL, project management or with working in the Galileo or space sector is advantageous. In our trainings you will develop your knowledge in the specialized fields.
- For this position you will need very good English skills. Italian is advantageous.
